We have rented a small house here in Hua Hin. The original plan was to stay here for just a few weeks and look for a big house.
But now we like the area here. Enea has made a few friends in our street and a teacher from his school lives a few houses away. Enea goes there every Saturday for tutoring. The neighbors are nice and helpful.
The only thing missing here is a garden. But it’s usually so hot here anyway that you hardly ever use the garden. We lived in Hua Hin almost 3 years ago and had a house here with a very large garden – and we hardly used it. If we need a bit of sun, we get on the motorcycle and ride 10 minutes to the beach.
Our house is a semi-detached house. When our neighbor moved out a few weeks ago, I decided to rent the house next door as well and convert it into an indoor playground for Enea.
As I’m making some structural changes, I had to pay a small extra deposit to our landlord.
At first, I did everything myself: opening the door, installing the door, boarding the walls with plasterboard and partly filling them. I also replaced all the light switches and sockets and some of the wiring was new.
However, it’s a lot of work and when you do many things for the first time, it always takes longer.
I used to work for a construction company and know a bit about it, but it’s been around 30 years since I did any real craft work.
That’s why I’ve now hired two handymen to fill, sand and finally paint the plasterboard. Everything should be finished this week.
Then I just have to have the house cleaned and lay out everything with foam mats. Then I can finally order and assemble the furniture and climbing frames.
One bedroom will become the study room, where the desk, whiteboard, books, etc. will go. The other bedroom was actually supposed to be Enea’s bedroom. But he has already made it clear to me that he doesn’t want to sleep alone and will continue to occupy his dad’s bedroom.
So the second bedroom will probably become the creative room. The tent, children’s kitchen and all the toys that encourage creativity will go in there.
The living room will then become the actual playground, with climbing frames, slider, balance board, steps and everything he needs to let off steam.
A trampoline (3 meters in diameter) and a small pool have already been set up in the covered driveway – and both are already being used extensively.
Update from 30.09.2024
The walls have now been filled and everything has been painted. The wall stickers have also been put up and part of the house has been covered with mats. The missing mats will be delivered in 1–2 days.
The climbing frame has also arrived and been set up. I have decided to order a second climbing frame.
There are still a few things missing that I need to order – but you can already let off steam, play and have a lot of fun.
Enea’s playground now has 60 square meters (indoor) and another 20 square meters (outdoor). Enough space to play and have fun.
